Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Stowaway collects when you use our website and Android app, and how it is used.

What we collect

• Account details: name, email, password (stored encrypted), profile photo, bio and home port. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google.
• Safety details: emergency contact, identity-verification status, and for captains, license and insurance details.
• Bookings, messages, reviews and reports you create in the app.
• Location, only when you choose to share it from the SOS screen.
• Payment details are entered directly with Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.

How we use it

To run the marketplace: create your account, process bookings and refunds, pay captains, let travelers and captains message each other, verify captains, keep people safe, prevent fraud, and meet legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information and we do not show third-party ads.

Who we share it with

• The other party to your booking (your name, profile, and messages).
• Stripe, for payments and captain payouts.
• Our hosting and database providers, who store data on our behalf.
• Authorities, when required by law or to protect someone's safety.

Public pages show only safe profile details: name, photo, bio, badges and reviews. Contact details, emergency contacts and policy numbers are never public.

Retention and deletion

We keep data while your account is active. Booking and payment records are kept as long as the law requires. To delete your account and personal data, email support@stowaway-app.com from your account email and we will process it within 30 days.

Your rights

You can view and edit your profile at any time, and you may ask us for a copy of your data or to correct or delete it. California and EU/UK residents have additional rights under local law, which we honor.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, access is restricted so each person can only see their own private details, and payments are handled by Stripe.

Children

Stowaway is not for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect children's data.
